The most important meal of the day; it can provide the energy to keep you awake during that 8 A.M. class and can even help you lose weight, yet is skipped by about 25 percent of adults. The most common excuse I hear is “I don’t have enough time,” so I decided to share some thoughts on how to get a jump-start on your day when in a hurry.

First off, I’m a huge fan of the revolutionary pastries known as Pop-Tarts but as expected the easiest thing isn’t the best thing to start your day with. It is something to raise your blood sugar and give you an early morning boost but there are much healthier choices. The Mayo Clinic suggests one item from whole grains, low-fat proteins, low-fat dairy, and a fruit or vegetable.

Making a meal with all that in the morning would be incredibly time consuming but preparing a decent breakfast is a very easy task. Slicing a banana and putting peanut butter on it the night before makes for a nutritious substitute for Pop-Tarts. Grab an apple and some string cheese for the walk to class. There’s always a way to improve your day; breakfast is a good start.
